As part of the decommissioning of Jacques Ellul Middle School, Bordeaux Métropole commissioned Plateau Urbain to study the feasibility of temporarily occupying the school, which was initially slated for demolition. Located in the priority neighborhood of Ville de la Benauge, currently undergoing urban renewal, this 1970s building offers potential space not only for the rich ecosystem of cultural and social economy actors in need of workspace, but above all for the neighborhood’s driving forces: the municipal library and the project center during the renovation work. The urban development master plan has therefore been revised to postpone the demolition of part of the school and allow these activities to continue in the neighborhood, within a mixed-use, community-based third place.
